If you are a regular custom ROM flasher you probably already knew, nearly all custom ROMs don't have a Google app installed. This is due to licensing fees. Hence, you must flash Google app package separately. Google Apps aka GApps include apps like Google Play Store, GMail, Gtalk, Google Map, Google Calendar, Google Search, Google Voice, YouTube, Google Sync, Google Backup Transport, Car Home, Google Music, and Google Docs.

Having Play Store make our life easy. It helps us to install various apps easily right from play store. That's why its absolutely necessary for us to flash a gapps package after installing a custom ROMs.

How to install Google Apps via TWRP Recovery

  1. You must have TWRP recovery installed. [Read: How to install TWRP Recovery [latest] on any Android device]
  2. Copy downloaded gapps zip file to your Android device.
  3. Boot into recovery mode. Either with key combination or boot into recovery without key combination.
  4. Tap on Install, then browse to the location where you saved the files and tap on the gapps zip file. Now at the bottom of the screen, do a swipe on the Swipe to confirm flash option to begin flashing.
  5. When the installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and tap on Reboot and then, tap on System to reboot your device.

How to Boot into Recovery without Key Combination

Recovery mode is one of the powerful secret feature of any Android device, no mater its tablet, camera or smartphone. Its allow you to update your device via recovery when OTA option don't work. Its particularly helpful, when you forget your security password or pattern and you absolutely don’t have any clue of recovering it; solution is, boot into recovery mode and then wipe data /factory reset. Though this will delete all data that’s available in your device but you get back your device for regular use. Though the stock recovery don't offer much but thing get interesting when you have a custom recovery installed. With the help of a custom recovery you can easily install custom ROMs, kernels and mods. That’s why, if you wanna be an advance Android user then you should know a way to boot into recovery.

You can always boot into recovery via adb and fastboot command. However, if you have a rooted device then custom app can help you out. However, we still recommend you to find the key combination of your device for recovery mode as app won’t help you to boot into recovery if your phone is locked.

How to boot into recovery using ADB / Fastboot command


Depending on your device bootloader either adb or fastboot command will work.

  1. Download and install ADB / Fastboot if you don't have it already.
  2. Connect your device to PC.
  3. Now on your computer open a command prompt (on Windows) or terminal (on Linux or macOS) window, and type: adb reboot recovery or fastboot reboot recovery (command depend on your device bootloader)

  2. Open the app and you will various boot option from there tap on Reboot Recovery.

How to install Official Samsung Firmware on any Samsung Device using Odin Flasher

In this guide we will discuss - how to install official Samsung firmware on your Samsung mobile or tablet. Official firmware not only good to update your device security and fixing bugs but equally useful to unbrick it. You don't need to leave your smartphone or tablet to service center for this. You can do it yourself right from your home. All you have to do, read this guide carefully. For this, we will use a tool called Odin which is designed to work on Windows PC. So if you have Linux based PC try your luck with Wine tool and Mac user can try WineBottler to check if it works there. Again, don't skip any steps; read everything carefully before flashing Samsung stock firmware on your Samsung device.

I tried my best to simplify this guide so that you can follow it easily. Apart from having Odin flash tool, all you need to have right stock/official firmware for your smartphone or tablet. You can simply use our search box to find firmware for your device model or search over internet. If you downloaded it from somewhere else make sure the site is trusted enough. Anyway, once you get the right firmware just follow below guide to flash it using Odin tool.

Prerequisite:

  1. You must have Samsung USB driver installed.
  2. Your device must have at least 50% battery charged to avoid any accidental shout down.
  3. USB Debugging must be enabled on your device.
  4. Although official firmware don't erase any device data but we still recommend to backup your Android device data before proceeding.
  5. Download Odin tool.

Steps For How To Install Stock Firmware on any Samsung Smartphone / Tablet using ODIN

Step 1: Extract Firmware zip file that you downloaded, you will get a .tar.md5 file and some other files (optional).

Step 2: Extract Odin zip file and you will get Odin3 v3.13.1 along with few other files.

Step 3: Power off your Android device. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.

Step 4: Now, put the Samsung smartphone on Download Mode by pressing and holding down the Home & Volume Down button together while pressing the Power button. For few tablet devices press Power and Volume Down button together. A warning screen will come up; press Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.

Step 5: Now run Odin3 v3.13.1 (see Step 3) as an Administrator because Admin privileges is required to complete the process smoothly (only applicable Windows Vista and higher).

Step 6: Now connect your device to your PC using USB cable. An “Added!!” message will appear in Odin’s message box. If you don’t get the same then you should try another USB port (try USB port located in back in your desktop PC). If that too doesn’t work then you should reinstall the driver. If you successfully see the “Added!!” message in Odin then you are ready to go in next step. You should also see COM port with a number in Yellow if you successfully added your device.

Step 7: Click the AP Button, and select that .tar.md5 file that you get in Step 2.

Step 8: In Odin window, make sure only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected.

Step 9: Re-check everything that we mentioned in Step 7 & Step 8 above. Now, once satisfied hit the START button to begin the flashing process.

Step 10: Once flashing completed, your Samsung device will restart and soon you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can now unplug the USB cable to disconnect your device from the computer.

How to install TWRP Recovery [latest] on any Android device

As I said several time at ShizHub, Android is a vast universe. And, you can only enjoy more about it if you like to experiment with your device. Most Android user like to customize their Android device by flashing custom ROMs, rooting it or by installing custom mods. To do all this task one must have a custom recovery installed. Stock recovery comes with limited feature and can only be used with stock firmware. While custom recovery not only comes with touch integration but also offer you much more advance features.

How to install TWRP Recovery [latest] on any Android device


What is TWRP Recovery?


TWRP stand for Team Win Recovery Project. Its a third-party recovery and very first touch-enabled custom recovery. It let you flash custom ROMs, kernels and mods. You can also wipe cache, wipe delvic cache and do factory reset. It also offers you backup and restore.

Prerequisites:

You must have following requirements before you head down to install the TWRP recovery on Android.


  1. Its recommended to backup your device data before moving forward.
  2. Your phone must have at least 50% charged to avoid any accidental shutdown during installation process.
  3. Many device comes with bootloader locked. You must unlock it before proceeding. A general OEM unlock guide is provided.
  4. You may need to download and install USB drivers on your PC.
  5. For fastboot flashing, you also need to install ADB/Fastboot tools on your PC.

General OEM Unlock Guide:

  1. Enable OEM unlock in the Developer options under device Settings, if present.
  2. Once done, connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
  3. Now on your computer open a command prompt (on Windows) or terminal (on Linux or macOS) window, and type: adb reboot bootloader .
  4. To confirm the device is connected in fastboot mode or not, type: fastboot devices.
  5. Once confirmed, type the following command to unlock the bootloader: fastboot oem unlock.
  6. The device should automatically reboot, if not then reboot it manually.
  7. Since the device resets completely, you will need to re-enable USB debugging for the next recovery installation process.

How to install TWRP Recovery via Fastboot command

  1. Download TWRP for your device.
  2. Once done, connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
  3. Now on your computer open a command prompt (on Windows) or terminal (on Linux or macOS) window, and type: adb reboot bootloader .
  4. To confirm the device is connected in fastboot mode or not, type: fastboot devices.
  5. Once confirmed, type the following command to flash TWRP Recovery: fastboot flash recovery twrp-x.x.x-x-device.img. [Note: Replace TWRP file name with your downloaded file name]
  6. The device should automatically reboot, if not then reboot it manually.

How to install TWRP recovery via Odin (For Samsung Devices)

  1. Download TWRP for your device (img.tar file)
  2. Download Odin zip and extract it in your PC.
  3. Power off your Android device. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.

Today, I'll discuss how to root any Android device. Lately, I started to write about rooting since I receive some mail regarding this. Android is a vast universe and the developers are the heart of it. There are many developers who spending their time to create free tools to make our life easy. There are few tools that could easily root your Android mobile, tablet, camera or TV. In this article I'm going to list some tools that you can use to root your device without much technical knowledge. Before that you may want to read the benefits of rooting.

Warning: Rooting a device may void the warranty on the device. It may also make the device unstable or if not done properly, may completely brick the device. 3. WinDroid Toolkit: Another Windows only toolkit. However, little bit more advance one. It helps you to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and obtain root by flashing the SuperSU zip via recovery. [Download WinDroid Toolkit]

4. Magick: Its little advance tool. Those who have custom recovery, can just flash the zip and install Magisk Manager to use root. And those who don't have a custom recovery, need to install the Magisk Manager first. Then open the app and press Install > Install > Patch Boot Image File, and select your stock boot image file. If you are a Samsung user and want to flash the boot image via Odin then you must follow this first: go to Settings > Update Settings > Patched Boot Output Format, and select .img.tar. The patched image can be found on your device download folder. Copy the image to your PC and flash it via Odin (Samsung Users) or flash it using fastboot command: fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img . You must setup ADB and FastBoot support, if you not have it already. It will be good idea to copy the patched image file to ADB folder to make flashing easy. [Download Magisk]

How To Enable / Disable USB Debugging - Complete Tutorial

You must enable USB debugging on your Android device to perform various system related task such as unlocking, rooting or installing custom recovery. In some cases you may require to enable it to transfer files between your PC and Android devices (smartphone, tablet etc.).

Various Android versions comes with different ways to enable it. I will discuss most of the version for you.

How To Enable / Disable USB Debugging On Android Devices


Android 2.0 - 2.3.x


First open Settings, then Applications and then Development. After that tap on checkbox beside USB debugging.


Android 3.0 - 4.1.x


First open Settings, then Developer options. Turn on Developer options and then tap on USB debugging. A warning box pop-up, just tap on OK button.


Android 4.2.x and higher

First open Settings, then go to 'About phone' or 'About tablet' (depending on your device). Find Build number field. Now constantly tap on Build number field until you see "You are now a developer!" message. After that, tap the Back button and you'll see the Developer options menu under System on your Settings screen.

Now open Developer options and then tap on the checkbox located beside USB debugging.

The list is surely not complete. As Android is free OS and manufacturer don’t need to pay unless they want a Google Play Store license, we witness a countless regional Android manufacturer. That’s why its hard to list all manufacturer’s USB driver link. However, to make thing simple I’m going to discuss few tools that most likely help you to install necessary driver.   1. First of all you need to uninstall previous USB driver for your device if there is any. To do this, go Program and Features >> Device Manager.
  2. Unpack downloaded USB driver archive at a convenient location in your computer. For example in C: drive.
  3. Switch your Samsung smartphone in download mode and connect it to computer using USB cable. You can directly connect any other manufacturer Android device.
  4. You phone should now discovered by Windows with a name, say ‘Gadget Serial’ device.
  5. Go to Windows Device Manager. Right click on the device your phone has been discovered as (e.g. "Gadget Serial") and choose "Update driver" option from the context menu.
  6. Choose "Search my Computer...", check "Include subfolders" option and point the updater to the folder where you've had unpacked the drivers .rar or .zip archive to, eg. C:USB_Driver.
  7. The driver should install automatically.
  8. It may happen that after the installation some new "unknown device" (for example, say "Samsung Modem") would appear in the Device Manager. Complete 6 & 7 step for that device and any other new device that may appear afterwards.
  9. Restart your computer.
